You’ve got a fast car I wanna a ticket to anywhere Maybe we make a deal Maybe together we can get somewhere Any place is better Starting from zero, got nothing to lose Maybe we’ll make something Me, myself, I’ve got nothing to prove You’ve got a fast car I’ve got a plan to get us out of here Been working at the convenience store Managed to save just a little bit of money Won’t have to drive too far Just cross the border and into the city You and I can both get jobs And finally see what it means to be living See my old man’s got a problem Live with the bottle, that’s the way it is He says his body’s too old for working His body’s too young, to look like his When mama went off and left him She wanted more from life than he could give I said somebody’s got to take care of him So I quit school and that’s what I did You’ve got a fast car Is it fast enough so we can fly away? We gotta make a decision Leave tonight or live and die this way Say remember when we were driving, driving in your car Speed so fast it felt like I was drunk City lights lay out before us And your arm felt nice wrapped ’round my shoulder And I had a feeling that I belonged I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone You’ve got aa fast car We go cruising entertain ourselves You still ain’t got a job Now I work in the market as a checkout girl I know things will get better You’ll find work and I’ll get promoted We’ll move out of the shelter Buy a bigger house and live in the suburbs Say remember when we were driving, driving in your car Speeds so fast it felt like I was drunk City lights lay out before us And your arm felt nice wrapped ’round my shoulder And I had a feeling that I belonged I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone You’ve got a fast car I’ve got a job that pays all our bills You stay out drinking late at the bar See more of your friends than you do of your kids I’d always hoped for better Thought maybe together you and me’d find it I got no plans and I ain’t going nowhere So take your fast car and keep on driving Say remember when we were driving, driving in your car Speeds so fast it felt like I was drunk City lights lay out before us And your arm felt nice wrapped ’round my shoulder And I had a feeling that I belonged I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone You’ve got a fast car Is it fast enough so you can fly away? You gotta make a decision Leave tonight or live and die this way

once ive been 16 too…
@TheJorsh101…ok so im only 16 and i was born in 93. i feel the same way that you do.The 90’s was just a time of acceptance and not needing to have your voice auto-tuned..This song is stunning
I love this song… makes me want to drive away with my mate right now, if only I could…< :(
Love it, I just posted my new top speed on the way to work to this song yesterday!!!!
This song cut to the core of me
@TheJorsh101. I totally agree. And all the rock music from the 70s were kickass too. And the old classic REAL RnB and soul like ‘At the dark end of the street’ and many more. Back in the day all the artist were real artists and had their own style. That can sadly not be said about these plastic, mainstream, manufactured so-called artists of today.
Speed. Texas Blue Sky and a long Hot Road.
My Everything.

awwi, this song is so sweet (::
the black & white pic of the road is amazing. Goes so greatly with the song. I imagine myself just driving away. Love this song so much.
Why are there no artists today that can make an album where you want to listen to every song? This album as well as Bat out of Hell are two great examples. There’s hardly any music left like this and it makes me sad. Dumbass kids and late teens only like bullshit rap where they only talk about gettin drunk. I miss the 90’s and the music and sound that came outta that decade.
god i looove this song. never get sick or tired of it. story [or song] of my life.

Bellissima canzone!
This song reminds me of how much I take my life for granted. I guess I can be a bit blind and arrogant at times. Thank you Tracy Chapman, for opening my eyes. For a woman to to have a somewhat deep voice like this, that is a gift. For those of you who keep saying “it’s a guy” even though you’ve been told it’s a woman, you obviously aren’t mature enough to appreciate this kind of music. It’s songs like these that never get old.
WELL FUCKING DONE YOU MONGOLOID! DO US ALL A FAVOUR, FIND A TALL BUILDING AND JUMP OFF! CUNT! HOPE ITS A SLOW PAINFUL DEATH! much love! x
its a woman, you FUCKING CUNT!
